Beauty Mask Leave-On Treatments that You Can Make at Home

Beauty masks are great, but sometimes you may not have time to apply it, sit and wait, then wash it off before getting ready to leave the house or maybe you’re way too tired for that drawn-out routine before climbing into bed. Don’t worry, though, as there are plenty of different face mask treatments you can quickly and easily apply to your skin and leave on all day or night. No waiting and no washing necessary. Best of all, these are all made from organic ingredients you can find at home to create the perfect face mask. If you’re looking to save a ton of time without sacrificing your skin’s health with dry skin, oily skin, or worse, check out our favorite recipes for leave-on skin treatments:

Anti-Aging Moisturizer

You may know ginger ale as a great cure for an upset tummy, but that’s not all the ginger root is good for. Ginger has tons of wonderful healing properties when ingested and can even be used on the skin to improve elasticity and heal blemishes. Ginger is full of antioxidants that help do things like even out your skin tone, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and make your skin glow. When paired with coconut oil, it makes a moisturizing treatment that protects your skin against aging and is safe enough to be used daily (or multiple times a day if you’d like).

This moisture mask is super simple to make and will only take about 15 minutes of your time. Plus, you can store excess in your refrigerator for up to two weeks, so you don’t need to make a batch every day.

To make this moisturizing treatment, you will need:

  • 1 c. coconut oil
  • 1 tsp. organic ginger powder
  • A double boiler or glass bowl that fits inside your cooking pot
  • Glass storage container

How to make the mask:

  1. Heat double boiler to medium heat, then add coconut oil.
  2. Allow coconut oil to melt completely before adding ginger powder. Whisk ginger powder into oil while slowly increasing heat.
  3. Once the powder is dissolved, remove oil from heat and immediately pour into glass storage container. Oil is easier to pour while it is still hot. Otherwise, it will become solid and need to be scooped out of the pot and into a jar.
  4. Apply a thin layer of this mask to the entire face or just under the eyes and in other wrinkle-prone areas once or twice daily. Allow it to absorb into the skin for 15 minutes before applying makeup or other products on top.

Skin Brightening Mask with Turmeric

This mask has a subtle yellow tint that brightens skin and allows it to shine brightly all day. The turmeric gives it its color, but that's not all it does. Turmeric is packed full of healthful benefits for your skin. It is a natural anti-inflammatory that helps reduce the appearance and soreness of acne. It is also full of antioxidants that help your skin stay healthy and glowing. Turmeric has also been known to permanently reduce the appearance of scars from acne, and when paired with the bleaching powers of fresh lemon juice can effectively help lighten the skin. Plus, the lemon has oil-control properties that will help your skin balance its oil production.

What you need:

How to make the mask:

  1. In a clean mixing bowl, add shea butter, lemon juice, and turmeric powder. Blend well with whisk or hand mixer. The mixture should be a pale yellow color that is mostly transparent when applied to the skin.
  2. Store in a clean, airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
  3. Apply to the skin in the mornings to moisturize and provide a brightening effect. The mask, when used daily for an extended period of time, will help permanently lighten dark spots on the skin and reduce deep scars.

Overnight Cinnamon Clay Mask

This mask consists of a fine French clay, which has tiny “micro molecules” that absorb excess oil and impurities from the skin. Clay masks have always been well-known for their ability to “extract” toxins and excess moisture, so clay makes a great counterpart to cinnamon, which increases blood and oxygen flow to the skin. Combined, these ingredients draw out impurities and help the skin to begin replenishing itself.

Cinnamon also can help fight acne-causing bacteria, so this mask is beneficial for irritated skin, too. The best part is that you don’t have to wash it off before bed. You can actually sleep in the mask for better effects. The longer you let the clay dry, the more impurities it can draw out, so you get to cut some time off your nighttime routine and your skin gets a serious boost. We know, it's not really “leave on,” but it is a safe way to extend the benefits and relaxation of your bedtime beauty routine well into the morning time.

To enjoy this overnight spa treatment for your face, you will need:

  • 1 ounce of French green clay
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp. raw organic honey
  • 1–3 tbsp. water

How to make it:

  1. In a clean mixing bowl, mix clay and cinnamon well.
  2. Add honey and one tablespoon of water and mix to form a thick paste. Add more water as needed to create a consistency thin enough to spread evenly.
  3. Store excess in a small glass jar in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
  4. Apply this mask to a dry, clean face before bed. Allow to dry overnight and rinse clean with warm water. Then, wash face as normal and follow your normal morning skincare routine.

These leave on masks are all great everyday options to incorporate into your skincare routine. They are as quick to make as they are to apply and your skin still reaps tons of benefits. Keep your skin moisturized, clear, and happy with just a few ingredients from around the house, and save time, too!
